A different coast, sailed west-about
A different coast from the Odyssey, sailed west-about: out of the sheltered bays around Gocek, past the fishing harbour at Bozburun where the gulets themselves are still built, along the long bare Datca peninsula, and into Bodrum under the castle. Knidos, where the peninsula ends, was a city built to catch two winds at once, and it is still best arrived at by sea. The days are swimming, a walk to a ruin, lunch under the awning, and an anchorage chosen that afternoon for the way the wind is sitting.
Seven nights aboard a chartered gulet with her own captain and cook, boarding in Gocek. The last day can hold a tasting at a vineyard above Bodrum and the weaving village of Etrim, if the group wants it and the day allows.

Day 1 Embarkation at Gocek Gulet
Met at Dalaman and driven to Gocek marina. A welcome drink at sunset, then a short hop to the first cove for the night.

Day 2 Sarsala Bay Gulet
A day of sailing and swimming among the bays around Gocek, with ruins ashore for anyone who wants them.

Day 3 Dalyan, Kaunos and Ekincik Gulet
Iztuzu beach and a local boat up the channels to Kaunos, through the reed beds the turtles and the birds share.

Day 4 Bozburun and Bozukkale Gulet
The ruined castle at Bozukkale, which guarded the strait, and the boatbuilding village of Bozburun.

Day 5 Datca Gulet
The old town at Datca, its streets and its almond ice cream. The night is spent in the marina or at anchor, as you prefer.

Day 6 Knidos and on to Bodrum Gulet
Knidos at the tip of the peninsula, built where two seas meet and laid out to use both winds, with its temples and its early churches. Then north for Bodrum.

Bodrum ashore, the weaving village of Etrim in the hills, and an optional tasting at Karnas Vineyards.

What travellers usually ask
How far ahead should we plan?
Three to six months is comfortable for the high season, and the gulets in particular go early. That said, we have put together good journeys on three weeks notice more than once.
Can we change the route once we have started?
Yes, and people often do. A private charter is yours; if a cove turns out to be worth another night, the captain will simply reshape the next day.
