The journey

Following the bloom, not the calendar

Anatolia holds around ten thousand plant species and a third of them grow nowhere else on earth. This journey follows the bloom rather than the calendar, in the company of botanists who have spent decades learning which hillside is worth the climb in which week. Expect early starts while the light is low and the petals are open, a great deal of kneeling in meadows, and lunches that go on long because nobody wants to move. The trails are empty; the country is a different one in flower.

Nine days, led by specialist botanical guides, timed each year to the season. Group size is kept small so the guide can stop for one plant. March to June, dates set once the winter shows what kind of spring is coming.
